My birdhouses

It was in Jan 2009 when I was inspired to build a birdhouse. I have purchased the ones you can find at nurseries prior to that and most of them didn't attract birds and non-lasting. I googled up and found a few nice birdhouses, most of them were small and decorative in manner.

I found a few nice designs, mixed and matched and came out with a standalone and tall birdhouse that has two arms with a base each, attached to a stand. With the support of my other half, we both got to build two with the help of a construction worker. Both birdhouses had two entry points each, one of which was a heart-shaped opening door. The first bird house was a lot smaller, while the second was bigger and designed with a tree branches in it. So that the birds could play and hang around in the birdhouse.

After 1.5 year, the birdhouses need a paint job, especially the roof.

Here's a recent picture of the first birdhouse. Every bird house has a nail jotting out by two sides of the birdhouse's base. With that, you can hang potted flowers. The base of the two arms is where you put either bird feeder or small potted plants - as you like. You need to nail or screw the four sides of the bottom base onto the ground to ensure the birdhouse doesn't fall during windy days or even knocked down by cats or dogs.

Birds do not live in there, but they like to play around the birdhouse, especially on the man-made branches. If you want the birds to like the birdhouse, place the latter at a cool shady place. The birds won't go in if it is hot. Also, if you want hummingbirds to visit your birdhouse - try hang potted nectar-typed flowers or you can also put the potted plant on the base.
